We are currently seeking an exceptional Molecular Microbiologist to join our Fermentation and Metabolic Engineering Group. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and enthusiastic team and participate in strain development of marine microorganisms using mutagenesis and metabolic engineering approaches. Experience at conduction microbial-based lipid research will be an asset.

REQUIREMENTS
  • PhD in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry or related disciplines with a strong background in molecular, genomics or systems biology.
  • At least 3 years of relevant research experience, preferably working directly in the lipid production with microbes.
  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with molecular cloning, genomics and genetic engineering of eukaryotic microbial strains.
  • Remarkable ability to supervise other scientists and communicate complex scientific matters to scientific and non-scientific audiences in a fast-paced environment would be definitely an asset.
  • Excellent general laboratory procedures, attention to detail, safety issues and GLP, working with a variety of microbial cultures and laboratory documentation.
  • Understands the kinetics and dynamics of microbial growth within fermentation systems.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership and communication (oral and written) skills, with the ability to work both as part of a team and individually.
  • Capacity to multitask and work economically is essential to achieve focused key milestones.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and computer skills; also experience with the use of real-time PCR and biolistic particle delivery systems is desirable.
  • Experience on the delivery of molecular biology applied research for potential commercial applications would be an asset.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Day-to-day management research tasks, including supervising of direct reports.
  • Report directly to the Director of Fermentation & Metabolic Engineering Group.
  • Efficient presentation of results to scientific and non-scientific audiences within short timelines.
  • Application of rational metabolic engineering and molecular biology techniques to further optimize current proprietary fatty acid producer strains and achieve key milestones within specified timelines.
  • Expedite development of manuscripts for publication in patents and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Preparation of grant proposal within tight timelines.
