JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT

Ocean Nutrition Canada Limited (ONC) is the innovator and supplier of MEG-3® brand Omega-3 EPA/DHA ingredients, from fish oil, to the global dietary supplement and healthy food markets. Based in Nova Scotia, Canada, ONC’s exceptional products, geographic location, and legacy of innovation have created a client base that includes the leading dietary supplement and healthy food manufacturers in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. ONC has an immediate need for an experienced Fermentation Scientist for their operation in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.


Reporting to the Fermentation Senior Research Scientist within the Fermentation and Metabolic Engineering Group, the Fermentation Scientist performs laboratory, pre-scale and scale up R&D activities to improve fermentation processes and to produce value-added organic compounds from micro-organisms. This includes performing microbiology laboratory work and fermentations in flask and automated fermentors, improving fermentation processes and presenting results to the team.

As the successful candidate, you should have a post secondary education (M.Sc. preferably) in Microbiology, Biochemistry or a related discipline, coupled with a year experience in a similar role. B.Sc. candidates could be considered if they have at least 2 years of experience with microbiology/fermentation. You must have the ability to perform a variety of research projects/activities related to both microbial fermentation processes, including the use of automated fermentors, and to preserve the integrity of strain collections. Moreover, you must have strong communication skills and experience working in a team environment.
